Award for innovative teaching

The MCI | Entrepreneurial School® has received yet another award. Professors at the Entrepreneurial School® were awarded the Ars Docendi 2021, the Austrian State Prize for excellent teaching at Austrian universities, for the project "ABWL für Wirtschaftsinformatiker/innen einfach anders - Mastering the Basics to strive for Excellence!

The innovative concept was penned by MCI professors Teresa Spieß and Thomas Dilger in collaboration with management consultant Helmut Zangerl, who works as a lecturer at the MCI. "Here, the students already work on integrative business plans in the first semester with the aim of gaining initial practical experience early on in their studies to make it easier to classify and build on their learning experiences in the further course of their studies," explains MCI professor Teresa Spieß. In six blocks, the students receive input on various topics relevant to the business plan and are accompanied by the lecturers through constant feedback blocks.

The Ars Docendi jury was impressed by the well thought-out integrated quality, feedback and evaluation system, which also shows measurability and potential for improvement of student performance. The jury was particularly convinced by the way in which students gain their own and integrative practical experience already in the introductory phase of their studies and are thus better able to classify the learning experience they have acquired.
