Breathtaking alpine panorama and altitudes up to over 3,000 metres including sunrise on the Pitztal Glacier. The popular Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail once again lived up to its reputation as one of the technically toughest and most scenic trail events. Six distances, sold out for the fourth time with more than 1,100 starters, finally again with an audience in the Trail City Mandarfen and a great atmosphere.

Mandarfen. On Friday, 6.8.2021, at 11 p.m., the starting signal was given for the distances P105, P90 and P60 in the Elite, Ambitioned and Pleasure Runner starting groups. Marie-Luise Mühlhuber, who last won in 2021 in the Stubai, was convincing in her role as favourite and won at her third start for the third time with a time of 11:02:44 in the P60 discipline ahead of Aletta Van Starrenburg (NED) and Stephanie Gil (GER). In the men's race Dominik Sanoll (AUT) won ahead of the Germans Jan Kaschura and Stefan Große-Sender.

The P45 - Glacier Trail gives the event its name. At the highest marathon in the Alps, the runners pass snowfields and the eternal ice of the Pitztal Glacier on shoe spikes and experience the unique experience of crossing the glacier at sunrise.

The Swedes Sanna and Lina El Kott Helander were able to defend their last year's victory in the P45 - Glacier Trail, the highest marathon in the Alps, and even set a new best time. Third place went to Susi Reichert (GER). In the men's race, Stefan Kaltenegger (AUT) placed on the top of the podium ahead of the two Germans Marcel Geißler and Noah Thösen.

The victory of the scenic P45 Rifflsee Trail was taken by the three Germans Lina Kabsch ahead of Heidi Annemarie Schwartz and Erika Chaari. In the men's race, Martin Schedler (GER) took the top step of the podium ahead of Robert Wolf (AUT) and Dominik Hohenleitner (GER).

The Salomon National Series brought the elite runners from Europe to the 30-kilometre race in Pitztal, where the records were tumbling this year. Anna Hahner (GER) confirmed her role as favourite in the women's race with victory and a new best time of 3:07:37, while Marc Dürr (GER) set a new record in the men's race. His time: 2:33:35.

Matthias Dippacher (GER) won the top discipline with a fabulous time of 16:49:34, leaving the second-placed Swiss Yannick Mathez behind by about two hours. Third place went to Simon Malsch with a running time of just under 20 hours. Shari Wilken from Germany was the only female finisher of the P105 with a great time of 20:45:37.

The race, which so far had no major accidents, was stopped on Saturday evening due to the weather, so as not to endanger the safety of the runners. Only those who had already passed the Kaunergrat Hut were allowed to continue. There is a separate classification for these runners. The Austrian Birgit Kocher and Verena Schlager were on the podium in the women's category, while three Germans shared the men's podium: Florian Jonas Kraemer ahead of Sergej Astanin and Thies Daniels.

With a supporting programme for families and accompanying persons around the course routes, a sports expo with partners Salomon, Compresssport, Adidas Terrex, Dynafit and the Trail Food Festival with various food trucks in the finish area of the Trail City Mandarfen, everyone present enjoyed the incomparable flair at the foot of the Pitztal Glacier. In addition, little trailers between the ages of 3 and 14 proved at the KidsTrail that they are definitely up to the sport of trail running.

The Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail is not only convincing on the technical side, but even more so from a scenic perspective. The runners pass mountain lakes and mountain streams and stunning panoramas. The highlights include not only the glacier crossing, but also the view of the Pitztal Glacier from the Fuldaer Höhenweg and the impressive valley view from the Mittagskogel Scharte at 3,070 m.
