1. Kitzbühel Cycling Marathon

Updated 08.07.2021

This year there will be a world premiere with the 1st Kitzbüheler Cycling Marathon. With 216 kilometres and 4,600 metres of altitude, the "Kitzbüheler" is a challenge for all cycling enthusiasts.

On 11 July, the participants start in Kitzbühel's Vorderstadt. From there, the course leads over the Pass Thurn into the Pinzgau region on the Gerlos federal road. The course reveals a wonderful view of the Großvenediger and the Krimml Waterfalls before the route climbs steeply up the new Gerlos alpine road. With two passes in your legs, you head out of the Zillertal valley to Bruck. The flat ride comes to an end when you have to conquer the Kerschbaumer Sattel. This pass winds its way over into the Alpbach Valley with its narrow and steep road. Once there, the route leads to Brixlegg and Kramsach, loops over Brandenberg to Angerberg and back to Kitzbühel via the Brixental.

There it awaits, the final climb and a fitting "grande finale" up Austria's steepest cycling mountain: the Kitzbüheler Horn! The panoramic road from the valley to the Alpenhaus is considered a classic of the international cycling scene: 875 metres in altitude, 18 hairpin bends, a route length of 7.1 kilometres and a maximum gradient of 22.3 %.

TIP | The route is also interesting for mountain bikers and once you reach the top, you can tackle an additional 320 metres in altitude to the summit. Compete with the cycling elite and log on at the timing station on the Kitzbüheler Horn.
