A few days ago, the Entrepreneurial University in Innsbruck concluded a partnership agreement with Shenzen Technology University (SZTU) in China at an online signing ceremony. According to the agreement, cooperation is planned in the areas of student exchange, teacher exchange, joint programmes and research activities. More detailed follow-up agreements are to be concluded for each of these.
Shenzen Technology University is a new university that enjoys the full support of the Chinese government. This ensures an impressive infrastructure and first-class, internationally experienced academic staff. There is a wide range of English-language courses and already close cooperation with German universities, among others.
As the name makes clear, Shenzen Technology University mainly teaches engineering. But there is also an ambitious business school under the direction of Holger Haldenwang, the former rector of Regensburg University of Applied Sciences.
An impressive new campus is currently being built for the university in Shenzen. It is scheduled to be ready for occupation by the end of 2020. Students will benefit from state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure. Shenzen itself is one of the fastest growing cities in the world, and already has more than 12 million inhabitants. The city is privileged due to its status as a special economic zone and attracts many foreign investments. In the south, the city borders Hong Kong and, together with the former crown colony and other neighbouring cities, forms one of the largest megalopolises in the world. Shenzen is - apart from the former colonial cities of Hong Kong and Macau - also the city with the highest per capita income in China.
Andreas Altmann, Rector of the MCI on the new cooperation: "The MCI has over 280 partner universities worldwide and all of them are valuable and unique in some way. Shenzen Technology University is a flagship project of the Chinese government; it is particularly exciting for the MCI and valuable from a strategic point of view that we have succeeded in reaching an agreement at such an early stage in Shenzen Technology University's history."
The head of SZTU Business School, Holger Haldenwang, and Wei Manske-Wang, who will be a faculty member at MCI from September, played a key role in bringing about the agreement.
