MCI begrüßt Tiroler Landesförderung 2021–2025

The Entrepreneurial University® is described as "a leading academic institution in the region" on the occasion of the Tyrolean provincial government's decision to fund the MCI to the tune of 44 million euros for the period 2021 to 2025. The state of Tyrol is thus making a substantial contribution to the costs of the current 26 bachelor's and master's degree programmes in the organisational forms of full-time, part-time and online, as well as to the expenses for infrastructure. With 3,550 students and a comprehensive range of continuing education courses, 12,300 graduates, over a hundred practical and research projects and several successful start-up companies, the MCI plays an indispensable role for the business, science and university location.

Accordingly, MCI Rector Andreas Altmann expressed his delight at this development in a press release: "The decision of the State of Tyrol, taken at the request of Bernhard Tilg, State Councillor for Science, has laid an important foundation for our further work, for which we must expressly thank him and the State of Tyrol. The state funding that has now been approved, in conjunction with the 'MCI Development Plan 2021-2025' that was approved several months ago and the 'MCI Campus New Building Project' that will start in autumn 2021, offers planning security and stability for the further development of the Entrepreneurial University® over the next five years. Our team is ready to master the challenges ahead, to prepare the youth for the future and to make the companies fit for the winds of global competition."

The state funding was approved at the request of Bernhard Tilg, the regional science councillor, who has also successfully supported the MCI since 2008 as chairman of the MCI General Assembly: "The state funding serves in particular to ensure the continuation and high-quality further development of the study programmes with a special focus on technology, life sciences, tourism and social & economic sciences. Consistent digitalisation, ongoing innovation and a high degree of business and practical relevance are among the declared strategic thrusts." For Bernhard Tilg, the MCI "...has developed into a supporting pillar in the Tyrolean education and university landscape. With the adoption of the MCI's strategic development plan 2021-2025 and the recent decision to co-finance the operation of the MCI, the Tyrol is living up to its responsibility for the MCI. In addition, all the necessary steps for the rapid realisation of the new MCI Campus, with construction scheduled to begin in autumn 2021, are being prepared. Now it is the turn of the federal government to adjust the funding for study places, which has remained unchanged for years, to compensate for the annual loss in value and to provide additional study places to meet the enormous demand."

The Mayor of Innsbruck, Georg Willi , emphasises: "It is impossible to imagine the provincial capital of Innsbruck without the MCI. I am very pleased about the sustainable commitment of the Province of Tyrol to the MCI and am convinced that we, on the part of the Provincial Capital of Innsbruck, are taking a major step towards securing the business, education and science location by making available fantastically located land in the heart of Innsbruck for the construction of the new MCI campus building. I would like to express my special thanks to Bernhard Tilg, Provincial Councillor for Science, and the MCI team for their commitment and successful work."

President of the Chamber of Commerce Christoph Walser: "The MCI has become an indispensable pillar for the Tyrol as a business location and a reliable partner for local companies. They benefit from highly qualified graduates and impressive innovative strength in research and development. I am thrilled that the MCI is pulling together and I would like to express my gratitude for the sustained commitment of the Tyrol and the work of Bernhard Tilg, the Provincial Councillor for Science. I am convinced that, in view of this success story, the federal government will also not be able to avoid the upcoming safeguarding of value and the provision of additional study places."

Christoph Swarovski, President of the Federation of Austrian Industries Tyrol: "As an 'entrepreneurial university', the MCI is of central importance to Tyrolean industry. In research and development projects, our companies particularly value the MCI's competence, flexibility and proximity. By enabling industry-related doctoral programmes, the university of applied sciences could become an even more attractive partner for business. With the state funding that has now been approved, the previous success story can be continued. The state is thus assuming its responsibility for the education and science location in a responsible manner, for which we are very grateful."

Wolfgang Eichinger, Chairman of the Technology Support and Sponsorship Association: "Thanks to consistent investments, the MCI has also developed into an internationally respected technical university in recent years - with internationally sought-after fields of study for mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and medical technology, process, environmental and energy technology, bio & food technology and software engineering. In this way, the MCI has triggered an enormous boost in technology and innovation, from which our science and business location is benefiting massively. With the state funding approved at the request of State Councillor Bernhard Tilg and the envisaged new MCI Campus building in 2021, this success story can be continued and further expanded
