As announced today by Minister of Finance Gernot Blümel, funding for student place financing at FH degree programmes will be increased by 10 percent. Specifically, a total of 137.4 million euros in additional funding will be made available for this purpose in the period from 2021 to 2024, which represents the largest absolute budget increase to date since the FH sector was founded. On the part of the Ministry of Science, assurances have been given that any further expansion of study places is not to be financed from these funds.
MCI Rector Andreas Altmann is happy and relieved: "The increase in the funding for study places enables
- Planning security for the coming years (strategy, personnel, infrastructure, academic performance portfolio)
- Sustainable investments in quality assurance of teaching
- Necessary investments in digitalisation, internationalisation and innovation
- Mitigation of the inflation-related loss of value that has occurred in recent years."
And further: "My express thanks for this measure - which is anything but self-evident, especially in economically difficult times - go to the entire Austrian Federal Government under the leadership of the two Federal Ministers Heinz Faßmann and Gernot Blümel, the leaders of the two coalition partners as well as the countless decision-makers who have worked for this increase with great commitment for years
I would like to particularly emphasise the Conference of Governors, the social partners, the science spokespersons of all parties represented in Parliament and the many colleagues in the science and higher education sector who have unanimously backed this demand. Now, in the interest of Austria as a location for science, technology and business, it is important to quickly tackle the outstanding steps (annual valorisation of student place funding, sustainable research funding, further expansion of student places)". The MCI is ready to take on the challenges ahead, to accompany motivated people in the realisation of their goals and to be an efficient partner for companies in research, innovation and qualification.
