The "7th Workshop in Behavioural and Experimental Health Economics" took place in Innsbruck on 6 and 7 February 2020. At this event, about 50 prominent scientists from all over the world reported on and discussed the current state of research in the field of health economics from a behavioural economics perspective. The conference was organised by the University of Innsbruck (Prof. Dr. Loukas Balafaoutas, Dr. Helena Fornwagner, Dr. Daniela Glätzle-Rützler) and MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® (Dr. Claudia Zoller). After presentations and discussions on highly topical issues, a panel discussion on health policy concluded the event.
The workshop dealt with two major thematic blocks: The first block of topics dealt with institutions and incentive systems. These should be designed in such a way that, on the one hand, doctors act in the best possible way in the interest of their patients, but that, on the other hand, their services are also economical and sustainable.
The second block of topics dealt with the question of how to motivate people to improve their health behaviour. Mechanisms that positively influence lifestyle were discussed, but also suitable interventions on the part of politics, such as nudging.
