MCI Professorship to Angela Hofmann

In recognition of her achievements in research and teaching, the exemplary translation of research performance into practice and her contributions to the further development of the MCI as well as the higher education sector, the MCI recently awarded Prof. Dr. techn. Angela Hofmann the title of Professor.

Originally trained as a chemical laboratory assistant and specialist technician for environmental protection, waste and recycling technology, Angela Hofmann laid the foundations for her later research interests at an early stage. Her actual academic career began with her diploma studies in environmental engineering at the MCI from 1998 to 2003, which were followed by numerous practical projects and supplementary qualifications. She set another milestone with her doctoral studies in process engineering at the Vienna University of Technology, which she completed in 2018. In her dissertation on "Thermochemical gasification of biogenic feedstocks with low ash melting point", she focused on researching the kinetics of gasification reactions in the presence of potassium compounds. Since 2009, she has been working at the Unternehmerische Hochschule® as a lecturer in the field of renewable energies. The process engineer's research focus is particularly in the areas of sustainable energy planning and energy development as well as energy production from biomass.

Angela Hofmann's inaugural lecture on the topic of "Energiewende und Klimafolgenanpassung" (energy transition and climate change adaptation) showed that she is outstandingly successful in translating her research and practical expertise into exciting and target-group-oriented teaching. With the provocative statement "Technology will fix it ..." she showed how energy use and energy sources should develop in order to ensure a long-term and resource-saving energy supply. Above all, however, it is a matter of responsibility for society as a whole. If there is to be an energy turnaround, this affects the entire social system. Ultimately, the energy supply of the future does not only depend on the technical possibilities, but also on the economic and social sciences, in order to develop sustainable solutions together with the technical disciplines.

The never-ending applause following her lecture showed that her message had been received by the numerous friends, companions, colleagues and students who had gathered. MCI Rector Andreas Altmann presented the certificate of appointment to FH Professor together with the Chairman of the University Board, Univ. Prof. Dr. Franz Pegger, and Department Head, FH Prof. Marco Rupprich PhD.
