The MCI has a special treat in store for the "Snowden's Guardian Angels" just in time for Christmas. These are the refugee families living in Hong Kong who hid the world-renowned whistleblower Edward Snowden in their home for several weeks after his publication of illegal surveillance practices hitherto considered impossible, until he was allowed to leave Hong Kong.
Since then, these families have been under massive political and economic pressure, which is why the MCI spontaneously decided to raise funds on the occasion of Edward Snowden's touching lecture at the Entrepreneurial School®. 10.000 US $ were collected for "Snowden's Guardian Angel". Rector Andreas Altmann summarises the motives of the Entrepreneurial School®: "The MCI's fundraising campaign is not about the omnipresent political topic of migration and refugees, but about supporting courage, commitment and responsibility to protect freedom and privacy, as well as defending values and a functioning civil society from threatening developments in the direction of an omnipresent surveillance state. "Tendencies of a 'Big Brother is watching you' must be resolutely opposed," was the urgent appeal of the Rector of the Entrepreneurial University®.
"Surveillance is everyone's business, even if you feel you have nothing to hide. It is about the protection of privacy and the personal freedom of each individual; about the right to make mistakes that are not held against you after 20 years as well as the possibility of being able to communicate with when, with whom and about what you want without being able to be brought into problematic predicaments with it - without knowing about it," said the visibly moved lawyer of Edward Snowden Robert Tibbo when accepting the cheque. "The refugee families have been under massive political and economic pressure since their altruistic commitment. MCI's donation comes just at the right time to help the families get through the next few months."
