The DGT Science Award is traditionally presented at the ITB, the world's largest tourism trade fair held annually in Berlin. For the seventh time in a row, Jannis Braun, a graduate of the MCI Department of Tourism, was able to convince the jury and bring home the coveted award.
Jannis Braun, M.A. convinced the DGT jury with his thesis "Brand identity as the basis for brand management of Alpine destinations". The aim of the winning thesis was to find out whether and how brand models known from the industry can be transferred to tourism destinations and which challenges and success factors have to be taken into account. "Mr. Braun succeeded brilliantly in systematically working through the abstract topic of brand identity of destinations," praises the head of MCI Tourism, Prof. Hubert Siller. "And I am of course particularly pleased that the DGT Science Award has gone to MCI Tourism for the seventh time in a row."
Prof. Anita Zehrer, Vice President of the German Society for Tourism Science (DGT) responsible for young academics, particularly emphasises the practical relevance of the winning thesis in the context of destinations: "In his Master's thesis, Mr. Braun transfers current knowledge on the topic of brand management to the brand management of Alpine destinations. A very topical subject that will meet with great interest on the part of practitioners."
The German Society for Tourism Science (DGT e.V.) annually awards the DGT Science Prize at the ITB for outstanding theses of tourism courses.
