Drehmomente – Konzert, Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik 2024
The musical work of Johann Sebastian Bach is timeless and forward-looking like no other - and also works on the most diverse and extraordinary instruments. At the centre of the 2nd chapel concert is just such an extraordinary instrument and at the same time one of the oldest in European music history. Originally invented as a mixture of monochord, fiddle and organ to accompany singing in medieval church services, over the centuries it developed into an instrument that was equally popular in folk and art music: the hurdy-gurdy. Tobie Miller, one of the world's leading experts in playing the hurdy-gurdy, uses modern, self-developed techniques on her instrument to recreate the highly virtuosic and complex world of Bach's solo partitas and suites for violin or cello.
