Kulinarischer Jakobsweg: Paznaun eröffnet sieben Genusswanderrouten

Updated 10.07.2023

The starting signal for the gourmet hiking season in Paznaun has been given: With the ceremonial opening of the 15th Culinary Way of St. James at the Ischgl Gourmet Market and the hut festival at the Alpenhaus, gourmets in Paznaun can once again look forward to high enjoyment in the high mountains. Until 19 September 2023, seven gourmet routes will lead to seven huts and a very special dish that local gourmet chefs have created especially for their hut using high-quality, regional ingredients. In addition, alpine hut festivals add summery highlights of enjoyment.

At the start of the 15th Culinary Way of St. James, Paznaun treated its guests to a weekend full of great delights in imperial weather. On 7 July 2023, this year's star chefs and mountain hut owners introduced themselves to their visitors and spoilt them with their Jakobsweg dishes at the Ischgl enjoyment market. Austria's youngest 5-hut chef, Benjamin Parth, whetted his guests' appetite for more and gave them a good foretaste of the hiking season and the coming hut festivals on Sunday, 9 July at the first hut festival in the Alpenhaus.

From now until 19 September, the pleasure routes of the Culinary Way of St. James with starting points in Ischgl, Galtür, Kappl and See will take you through one of the most diverse hiking regions in Austria to enjoy the delights. Always in view: the majestic mountain world with imposing peaks such as Fluchthorn, Blankakopf or Rotpleiskopf.

Starting in Ischgl, the Alpenhaus presents "Tomato with lasagne and Galtür alpine cheese" by Benjamin Parth, the Heidelberger Hütte "Stuffed peppers with tomato sauce on potato lemon puree" by Patrick Raaß and the Friedrichshafener Hütte "Plucked piglet, potato coleslaw and onion cream" by the #YoungChefsPaznaun. In Galtür , the #YoungChefsPaznaun's "Nettle Ravioli on Gerstl, Mountain Cheese and Endive" awaits hikers at the Jamtal Hut and Hermann Huber's "Potato Gnocchi with Venison, Boletus, Wild Herbs and Mountain Cheese" at the Faulbrunn Alm. Those who start from See will be spoilt at the Ascherhütte with "Beef 'Alpin', yeast bread and wild herbs" by Andreas Spitzer and the Almstüberl rewards Kappl guests with Martin Sieberer's "Crispy breast of young mountain piglet with Grammel semolina dumplings".

Good to know: The seven huts have been chosen so that pleasure pilgrims can hike to them on relaxed mountain walks or experience them on an e-bike. The Alpenhaus is even easily accessible by gondola. Those who take the direct route to the seven huts of the Culinary Way of St. James need a maximum of two and a half hours of hiking. All information on the participating chefs, huts and the recipes can be downloaded here.

The hut festivals of the Culinary Way of St. James provide very special moments of enjoyment. Here, visitors can experience the celebrity chef godfather up close during a show cooking in the high mountains and are treated to the hut's own Jakobsweg dish accompanied by music. Where in Paznaun which chefs will be providing high pleasure and when?
