From 31 August to 2 September 2023, the fifth edition of the E-Bike World Championships for EVERYONE will take place in Ischgl. Ischgl will host the event for the third time in 2023, where e-bike world championship titles will once again be awarded. Numerous innovations are planned for next year's biggest e-bike race in the world.
World championship titles to be awarded
When the E-Bike World Championships for EVERYONE take place in Ischgl from 31 August to 2 September 2023, a world championship title for professional athletes and amateur cyclists aged ten and over will be within reach. Simply everyone has the chance to win. The rules of the world's biggest e-bike race are simple: "While the fastest biker is crowned world champion in the 'ELITE' category, participants in the 'EVERYONE' category compete against three time limits (gold, silver and bronze). If they fall below one of the three defined limits, the e-bikers will receive an official JEDERMANN World Championship gold, silver or bronze medal," explains Dr Markus Mitterdorfer (E-Bike World Federation). Whoever falls below the gold limit can call themselves world champion. In addition to the medal achieved in the 'EVERYMAN' category or the overall ranking achieved in the 'ELITE' category, the best in each age group will be honoured according to gender and category.
What innovations will there be?
The popular Ischgl Ironbike Foxhunt Challenge will take place this year as part of the E-bike World Championships for EVERYONE on Thursday, 31 August 2023. What's it all about? E-bikers try to overtake two "foxes" on the Upbill route towards Idalp. The foxes are travelling with a lead and without electricity - the participants follow a little later with Storm. The aim is to catch up with a female and a male fox in two starting blocks - the foxes are still a secret.
The highlight with the race for the E-Bike World Championships for EVERYONE will take place on Saturday, 2 September on two different routes. The 27.1 km route in the "EVERYMAN" category covers 790 metres in altitude over wide paths with a fantastic panorama and impressive mountain scenery, where you can cycle comfortably to the World Championship medal.
A new feature from 2023 is that there will be a few obstacles along the route in the EVERYMAN category that require skill on an e-bike. But there's no need to worry: anyone who doesn't want to ride the obstacles can instead take a leisurely ride around the obstacle via an extended path. The participants in the "ELITE" category will have to give their all on a 37.1-kilometre-long, technically demanding route with 1,250 metres of elevation gain, including steep climbs and spectacular single trails. Just like in the EVERYMAN category, there are also obstacles in the elite category, which will provide a further challenge. On the day before the race (1 September), there will be an open qualifying session on a shortened course for participants in the "ELITE" category for the first time. Participation in qualifying will determine the starting order based on the fastest times. This allows the starters to secure a preferential grid position for the race. Participation in qualifying is not compulsory, but if you do not take part in qualifying, you will automatically be placed at the back of the starting order. The team classification is also new in both classes. A team must consist of at least four people in order to be categorised. There is no upper limit to the number of people in a team. The average time of the fastest three riders in a team will be analysed and the fastest team will also be awarded a prize. The following applies to the e-bikes: All commercially available e-mountainbikes (pedelecs) with pedal assistance up to a maximum of 25 km/h, a maximum motorisation of 250 watts and a maximum battery power of 800 watts are permitted to take part in the race. A bike check before the start is mandatory. If you don't have your own e-bike, you can hire one on site for a fee. It is also possible to book the hire e-bike for two days. Registration is now possible online at www.ebikewm.com.
Colourful supporting programme
Ischgl visitors, spectators and riders can expect a colourful supporting e-bike programme around the E-Bike World Championships for EVERYONE. Among other things, there is a large e-bike EXPO to discover, live bands to enjoy and trick bike artists to admire. There will also be another side event on Thursday (31 August): the fox hunt.
