From 3 to 5 August 2023, the KAT100 will once again send its participants across and over the Kitzbühel Alps - with great international appeal, because for the first time Austria's longest ultra trail is part of the UTMB World Series and has thus arrived in the highest international series. In addition to the world's best ultra runners, however, amateurs, beginners and the very youngest trail runners can also demonstrate their skills.
At sunset over rocky passages, at dusk over flowing valley trails, on grassy high-altitude trails through the darkness, and at sunrise looking up at the next mountain peak: In 2023, the KAT100 by UTMB® presents itself as versatile as the Kitzbühel Alps in which it takes place. Austria's longest ultra trail will be held in the PillerseeTal for the fourth time - but this year the organisers have managed to make a foray into the top class. in 2023, the event will be part of the UTMB World Series and thus a hotspot for the international trail running community, TVB-PillerseeTal Managing Director Armin Kuen is pleased to announce: "Since the KAT 100 has been held here, it has naturally been our wish and goal to also move up into the Champions League of trail running events," says Kuen: "Trail running is still a fast-growing sport with international appeal, so the KAT100 by UTMB® is a super opportunity for us to present the PillerseeTal to an international, sports-savvy audience in summer as well." For the world's best ultra run ners, the starting point in the heart of the PillerseeTal, in Fieberbrunn, is 170.7 kilometres and 9,820 metres of altitude difference across the Kitzbühel Alps and over some of the most challenging but also most impressive peaks to their personal limits - and beyond. The distance can also be run in teams of two or four as part of the Ekiden Trail.
Interested runners should not be put off by the impressive number in the event name, however. In addition to the flagship KAT100 Miles, the organisers in the PillerseeTal also have other distances for night owls, amateurs, trail running beginners and children. For example, the KAT100 Endurance Trail with 92 kilometres, starting in Fieberbrunn and finishing in Kitzbühel, is waiting for the athletes to experience their nocturnal trail running adventure. No less challenging are the KAT100 Marathon Trail (48 kilometres) and the KAT100 Speed Trail (24.2 kilometres). All beginners can be part of the exceptional format with the KAT100Easy Trail over eight kilometres. Children who are keen on running will start on different distances as part of the Kids Trail . In the start and finish area in Fieberbrunn, the entire trail running package will once again be put together during the three days of the KAT100 by UTMB®. In addition to a comprehensive gastronomic offer, an expo area with exciting exhibitors awaits the participants and spectators.
The KAT100 by UTMB® is the second event of the UTMB World Series in Austria, alongside the Mozart 100 by UTMB. The 2023 race series will feature a total of 31 events, including new events in Europe, South America and Africa. Further races in Asia and the USA have been announced.
