Verpeilt auf die Verpeilspitze – der Gipfelsieg für Expert*innen

Updated on 20/06/2022

See the world from above and climb on top of the Tyroleans. At 3,768 metres above sea level, the Wildspitze in Pitztal is the highest mountain in Tyrol. There is also Tyrol's highest café, the highest view, the highest registry office, ... It's high here. And alpine. And sharp. But that doesn't just apply to the Wildspitze, but also to the Verpeilspitze.

First of all - you can't be crazy on this tour, because anyone who thinks this is a Sunday stroll is very much mistaken. This is more of a challenging high-altitude tour, where snowy passages are not uncommon, even in the summer months. Climbing equipment is therefore an absolute must.

Here, too, many paths lead to the destination and you can organise the tour as you wish. If you want to take in as much of the panorama as possible, we recommend a 2-day tour via the Cottbuser Höhenweg with an overnight stay at the Kaunergrathütte. Here you start at the Rifflsee lake and hike parallel to the mountain along the impressive high trail.

A crisp day tour directly to the summit is perfect for mountain enthusiasts who want to get the most out of a day. The starting point is the hiking car park in Plangeroß. Three steep steps mark the way up to the hut, from where the route leads over gravel and snow fields to the first rock face. Passages up to the second level of difficulty await mountaineers here. In addition to fitness, surefootedness and a head for heights are absolutely essential. However, you will be rewarded with a fabulous panoramic view at 3,425 metres and your summit happiness is complete.

A stop at the Kaunergrathütte is the unofficial highlight of the tour because, according to the many hikers, it serves the best Kaiserschmarrn pancakes in the entire valley.
