Cycle route 19: Fulpmes - Mieders connection to be built
On 23 March 2022, the groundbreaking ceremony took place in the municipality of Mieders in the Stubaital for the "Watschbichl" construction section, another important section of the Stubai Cycle Route. The construction is part of a joint project of the Stubai Tyrol Tourism Association, the Planning Association and the Province of Tyrol. With a projected section length of 2.2 km, the connection between the Stubai villages of Mieders and Fulpmes will be established.
"The goal of the Stubai Tyrol Tourism Association is to create and maintain an extensive range of leisure and sports facilities for locals and guests right on our doorstep. It is a particular concern of the project management to implement a route that connects to as many attraction points of the Stubai Valley as possible. This holistic concept includes the construction of high-quality places to stay and modern signposting. All of the partners of the province of Tyrol and the planning association involved trust in the expertise of the Stubai Tyrol Tourism Association, which has been acquired in numerous trail projects," emphasised Adrian Siller, chairman of the Stubai Tyrol Tourism Association.
"The expansion of the cycle path network is a major concern for the province of Tyrol. As a representative of the state, I am very happy that we can realise a section of this joint project here in the Stubai Valley. The excellent cooperation between the Stubai Tyrol Tourism Association, the Planning Association, the Province of Tyrol and the property owners formed the basis for this objective," said Florian Riedl, Member of the Provincial Parliament, visibly pleased at the groundbreaking ceremony. The extension of the section will create another environmentally friendly mobility offer and lay an important foundation stone for the connection of the Stubai cycle path to the international cycle path network.
After the extension of the cycle path between the Neustift districts of Falbeson to Stackler and Schönberg to the connection in the Wipptal valley - in the Mühlbachl area - another important section will be realised by the summer. With a projected length of 2.2 km, the route will serve as a link between the Stubai villages of Mieders and Fulpmes. "The project is a special concern of mine and offers both the villagers and the Stubai guests an ideal cycling experience. With the realisation of this section, an essential connection between the communities is created. With the help of all those involved, we are a big step closer to the goal of revitalising the bike and e-bike offer in the Stubai Valley and thus to a sustainable future," says Daniel Stern, mayor of the municipality of Mieders, enthusiastically. Hermann Steixner, mayor of the municipality of Schönberg and chairman of the Stubai Valley Planning Association, agrees: "The Stubai Cycle Path offers the perfect complement to the already existing cycling offer for mountain bikers and connects to the international cycle path network. I would like to thank the Stubai Tirol Tourist Board for their excellent cooperation and far-sighted commitment."
In summer 2019, extensive exploratory talks and planning were followed by the starting signal for the Stubai Cycle Path. When completed, the route will cover a length of around 40 km. The Stubai Tyrol Tourist Board places great emphasis on the connection to the international cycle path network, in the north to the Inntal cycle path and in the south to the cycle path over the Brenner Pass. The investment volume so far amounts to 3.8 million euros. The mega-project should be completed as early as 2025 and attract cycling enthusiasts to the Stubaital.
