Versatile events attract visitors to the start of the warm season.
Squeaking bicycle tyres, clacking hiking poles and Tyrolean folk music: this is the sound of the overture with which the Kitzbühel Alps open their mountain summer. From 26 May to 19 June, the four associated holiday regions start the summer season. In the Hohe Salve holiday region, the Brixental valley, the St. Johann in Tirol region and the Pillerseetal valley, families and sports enthusiasts will experience events revolving around nature, culture and enjoyment. Whether with mountain hut fun, traditional music and in traditional costume, at special training sessions for mountain bikers or on the free accompanied KAT Walk or KAT Bike tour through the charming mountain landscape: the events impressively underline the diversity of the Kitzbühel Alps. Sustainable travel by train is rewarded with a ten percent discount on accommodation
Sport, culture and culinary delights: Mountain Summer Opening in the Kitzbühel Alps
The Hohe Salve (1829 m) and the Kleine Salve (1565 m) invite you to a "tradition for all senses" on 5 June. On Dirndl and Lederhosen Day, guests will be treated to folk music and mountain hut delicacies. As a highlight, the most beautiful dirndls and lederhosen from Niederkofler will be presented at a fashion show directly on the summit of the Hohe Salve. On 26 May, guests can look forward to training sessions, test rides and a free public shoot at the season opening of the Streuböden Bike Area in the Pillerseetal. In the Brixen Valley, the summit is calling a few days later: together with the former Nordic combined athlete and Olympic champion David Kreiner, sports enthusiasts will conquer the Großer Rettenstein (2366 m) on the Bike and Hike Tour on 2 June. Children and parents should make a note of the weekend from 10 to 12 June: Then the Family Bike Days in the St. Johann in Tirol region will entice them with guided tours, workshops and a colourful supporting programme especially for children. During the riding technique training, the youngsters learn how to ride curves, overcome obstacles and dare their first jumps. Those who want to explore all the regions at once can join a multi-day Kitzbühel Alps Trail Tour, where guides accompany hikers (13 to 17 June) and bikers (13 to 15 June) on the trail across the mountain world free of charge. It doesn't matter whether you want to do the whole route or just a few stages: Registrations are possible until 3 June online, by e-mail or by phone at +43 57507 8500. In addition, the Mountain Summer Opening attracts many other events and guided tours for families, climbers, hikers and connoisseurs.
Incentive for rail travel: Sustainable mobility in the Kitzbühel Alps
All holidaymakers who travel sustainably by bus and train will be rewarded for their environmental awareness between 26 May and 19 June. Participating businesses offer a ten percent discount on accommodation. Locally, holders of the guest card can travel free of charge on public transport. The local mountain railways are also taking part: on selected days, holidaymakers can gondola up panoramic mountains for half price.
Unusual performances: Guerilla action in Vienna's city centre
Those who encounter an unusually large number of holidaymakers from Vienna in the Kitzbühel Alps need not be surprised. Because on 23 April, a guerrilla action took place in Vienna's city centre to draw attention to the Mountain Summer Opening: climbers conquered building facades, bikers jumped over unoccupied benches and hikers picnicked in the middle of the shopping mile. With the surprise action, the athletes informed about the versatile events in their home country and raffled a two-day summer holiday for two people in the Kitzbühel Alps.
