This year, the KAT100 Miles will take place for the second time - Austria's longest ultra trail. A tribute to the passion for running and nature - the route takes participants over the most beautiful and challenging peaks of the Kitzbühel Alps.
After the extremely successful premiere of the event two years ago, the second edition of the KAT100 Miles will follow from5 to 7 August with start and finish in the PillerseeTal. The ultra-trail running brandHOKA ONE ONE® has also been won over for the popular event and will be a new sponsor this year. "We are very excited about the partnership with the KAT 100, the longest ultra trail race in Austria. The race coincides with the launch of the ZINAL - a super lightweight and responsive trail shoe that allows runners to attack grippy terrain and 'fly over the trails'. This year, the KAT100 Miles, which covers 173.9 kilometres and 9,996 metres of elevation gain, will be held as the Austrian Championship and a qualifier for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) - the most famous ultra in the world. More than 500 participants have already registered and in the future there should be many more if organiser Thomas Bosnjak has his way: "With the support of HOKA we want to make the KAT100 Miles one of the best ultra trail events in Europe.
For the PillerseeTal, the inaugural event in 2019 was a complete success. Many athletes came with their family or partners to explore the region and the trails - which boosted tourism in the region. Tourism Managing Director Armin Kuen is excited about the new partnership: "HOKA is an incredibly valuable partner for the run. In addition, HOKA has a huge network that ensures an even greater reach for the KAT100 Miles run and thus also for the PillerseeTal," says Kuen.
In addition to the KAT100 Miles, a variety of routes ranging from eight kilometres for beginners to the KAT100 Endurance Trail with 91.5 kilometres are also available this year. In addition, there is also a team competition with the KAT100 Ekiden Trail. Registration has been open since January and demand is already high, as project manager Angelika Hronek confirms: "Thanks to the relaxation measures, we already have more registrations than two years ago. We are looking forward to an international field of participants and of course numerous Austrian trail runners." For perfect preparation, there is the KAT100 Trailrunning Camp from 23-25 July. Exciting and informative lectures, joint running training and helpful tips on equipment are on the programme.
