Europäische Winterwandertage im Winterwanderdorf Kartitsch – Osttirol

Updated 20.10.2021

The "European Winter Hiking Days" of the European Hiking Association will be held three times in Tyrol until 2023. St. Johann in Tyrol in 2020 will be followed by the second edition in the winter hiking village of Kartitsch in East Tyrol in March 2022. For four days, the region will be under the sign of winter hiking.

From 10 to 13 March 2022, the European Winter Hiking Days will take place in Kartitsch in East Tyrol, Austria's first winter hiking village. During these four days, they offer numerous opportunities to take part in guided winter hikes. "Winter hiking decelerates, through active regeneration in harmony with nature, mind and body become one again. The authentic mountain village of Kartitsch at 1,356 m in the Tyrolean Gailtal offers the optimal conditions for winter hikes," says Franz Theurl, chairman of the East Tyrol Tourism Association. In addition, many other highlights await the participants, such as city tours, participatory confectionery, Tyrolean evening, a romantic torchlight hike or a toboggan run.

A potpourri of activitiesThewinter hikes are characterised by different routes lasting between one and five hours. The organisers expect numerous participants who can choose from a wide range of hikes. All guided winter hikes are included in the bookable total packages, from 165.-€ p.p. for 3 nights including breakfast. The guides take care of the winter hikers, no matter whether it's on a circular trail along the Gailbach, in the idyllic Winkler Valley or to the Hollbruck with its beautiful views. For those who like it a bit more challenging, there are various long-distance hiking trails through one of the most beautiful high valleys in the Alps.

European Hiking Association (EWV)The EWV is based in Kassel and has been uniting hiking enthusiasts from 34 European countries for over 50 years. "Our association was founded in 1969 and can now look back on 63 member organisations," says Boris Mićić, President of the European Ramblers' Association. The Tyrol was chosen as the venue for the Winter Hiking Days because people all over Europe know how suitable nature is for hiking there. "The Tyrol has a lot of good accommodation and the people are known for their hospitality and courtesy. There are many routes prepared according to the winter conditions. We as the European Hiking Federation are convinced that the participants will return home with a lot of positive impressions," says Boris Mićić.

Exclusive partnershipWinter hikingis now the second most important holiday activity for guests in Tyrol after skiing. The Tirol Tourist Board has therefore entered into an exclusive partnership with the European Hiking Association for the organisation of the three European Winter Days. After being held in 2020 in the Kitzbühel Alps of St. Johann in Tyrol, there will be Winter Hiking Days again in 2022 in the winter hiking village of Kartitsch in East Tyrol and in 2023 in the Kitzbühel Alps Pillerseetal, alternating with the German Winter Hiking Days.
