Named after one of the founding fathers of the European Union, Jean Monnet, the European Union funds chairs specialising in EU studies as part of its Erasmus+ programme. MCI Professor Markus Frischhut, who already held a Jean Monnet Chair from 2016 to 2019, has now been awarded another Jean Monnet Professorship for the period 2019 to 2021, which will be based around the topic of ethics and values with a particular focus on aspects of digitalisation.
Planned activities within the framework of the chair include relevant courses and research projects, extracurricular workshops for all MCI students and incoming students. In addition, joint projects with schools and in the context of adult education are planned.
The project led by Markus Frischhut fits seamlessly into the mission of the Entrepreneurial University® and its responsibility towards society. Among other things, the MCI has been a member of the United Nations' global PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) initiative since 2011.
"Law and ethics are now inextricably linked complexes of topics that are fuelled not least by advancing digitalisation and constantly raise new questions. Within the framework of my Jean Monnet Professorship, I will also investigate the role of values in the relationship of citizens to the EU and at the same time continuously share these findings with a broad public," Markus Frischhut explains the thematic orientation of the Jean Monnet Chair.
Ralf Geymayer, Head of the Department of International Business & Law, expresses his delight: "The continued funding of the Jean Monnet Chair by the EU Commission is a great confirmation of our chosen path in the areas of ethics, values & digitalisation that are so central to society. My express thanks go to FH-Prof. Markus Frischhut, who made this success possible together with the team of the Department of International Business & Law."
MCI Rector Andreas Altmann is in the same vein: "I am very pleased that the great achievements of Markus Frischhut and the entire MCI team are visibly reflected here. My heartfelt congratulations go to all involved!"
